Tuesday, November 07, 2006 | 10:16 AM

Police say a high speed car chase that began Sunday evening in Dewey Beach ended in Ocean City, Maryland, with the arrest of a 33-year-old Wilmington man.

Dewey Beach police say the chase started when officers spotted Steven Pierce swerving on Route One. A check of his license plate revealed the car had been reported stolen.

When officers tried to stop the car, police say Pierce sped away at 100 miles per hour. Police tried to end the chase with stop sticks but Pierce drove for 80 blocks through Ocean City with flat tires before hitting a concrete wall near South First Street.

Pierce was treated for minor injuries, then charged with vehicle theft, DUI, and traffic charges. Police say he is also wanted on warrants for two felonies in Delaware.
